Senior Russian official states countries are willing to back Iran with nuclear arms

(MENAFN)
A high-ranking Russian figure has alleged that multiple countries are now willing to provide Iran with nuclear weapons in light of recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear infrastructure.

According to statements released on social media, Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, claimed, “A number of countries are ready to directly supply Iran with their nuclear weapons.”

His remarks followed a statement by the U.S. President, who announced that American forces had targeted Iran’s nuclear sites in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. The airstrikes represent a major escalation in the intensifying conflict between Iran and Israel.

Medvedev asserted that despite the bombings, the facilities appeared to have sustained only minor or no critical damage. He suggested that Iran’s nuclear enrichment activities and any potential weapons development would likely persist unaffected.

He further warned that the U.S. risked being drawn deeper into yet another military confrontation, this time possibly involving ground operations. He stated that the strikes may have bolstered the Iranian leadership’s political standing. “The people are consolidating around the spiritual leadership, and even those who did not sympathize with it,” he said.

Medvedev criticized Trump for initiating another conflict while having previously campaigned on promises of peace, adding that there was no realistic chance of the president being considered for the Nobel Peace Prize.

He also stated that “the absolute majority of countries” disapprove of the actions taken by both the United States and Israel.

The U.S. military action came in response to heightened Israeli attacks on Iran that began on June 13. In retaliation, Iran launched missile strikes against Israeli targets, including cities and military sites.

Iran’s Health Ministry reported at least 430 fatalities and over 3,500 injuries from Israeli strikes. In contrast, Israeli sources stated that 25 people were killed and several hundred more wounded by Iranian missile attacks.
